Participants of the 51st Session of the D-8 Commission in Ankara discussed preparations for the organization's upcoming summit in Jakarta, measures to reform the organization, and ways to expand economic cooperation among member states.
According to a D-8 statement cited by Report, the meeting was held from June 15 to 17 in the Turkish capital under the chairmanship of Egypt.
During the session, commissioners and senior representatives of D-8 member states reviewed a report by the organization's Secretary-General, Sohail Mahmood, on the activities of the Secretariat during the first half of 2026.
Particular attention was given to the development of trade, energy, tourism, agriculture, science and technology, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, youth policy, and transport connectivity.
"The Commission also reviewed preparations for the 12th D-8 Summit to be held in Jakarta, progress on measures for reform and institutional capacity-building, financial and administrative matters, and implementation of the D-8 Decennial Roadmap 2020-2030," the statement says.
The Commission also welcomed the announcement by Egypt regarding the ratification of the D-8 Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and the Dispute Settlement Mechanism (DSM), a significant development expected to contribute to deeper economic integration and increased intra-D-8 trade.
