US President Donald Trump sought to end the conflict with Iran as quickly as possible because of its impact on the global economy, as well as on his popularity and the Republican Party's prospects ahead of the midterm elections.
Report informs that, according to CNN, which refers to sources within the US administration, Trump and his advisers decided in early June to pursue a framework agreement with Tehran that would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz and establishing broad principles for resolving issues surrounding Iran's nuclear program.
CNN reported that many senior administration officials supported ending the conflict. In particular, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed concern about the economic consequences of the war, while Energy Secretary Chris Wright warned about its impact on global energy markets.
At the same time, according to the network, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were among the most skeptical officials, questioning Iran's willingness to comply with any potential agreement.
