Around 7 million barrels of oil per day are being transported out of the Persian Gulf with the support of the US military amid disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said at an energy forum in Houston.
Report quotes him as saying this volume represents roughly half of the oil flow that became blocked in the Strait of Hormuz following the start of the US–Israel conflict with Iran.
The US energy chief said Iranian oil will not be transported through the strait, but expressed confidence that shipments of other petroleum products through the Persian Gulf will continue smoothly if an agreement is reached.
He added that if no agreement is achieved, US forces will continue efforts to restore normal cargo movement in the region.
