China urges Iran, US to return to Islamabad memorandum

China is calling on Iran and the United States to return to the Islamabad memorandum as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

According to Report, citing Xinhua, Wang said a further prolongation of the conflict between the United States and Iran would not serve the common interests of the parties concerned or the international community.

He said China was urging Iran and the United States to maintain a rational approach and exercise restraint, return to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding as soon as possible, restore the negotiation mechanism on the basis of the consensus reached so far, and hold substantive consultations on issues of mutual concern.

The United States and Iran signed the memorandum in Islamabad in July this year.
