China allocates nearly $6 million for disaster relief and recovery after typhoon

China has allocated 40 million yuan (approximately $5.88 million) to support emergency response and recovery efforts in the eastern provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang following Typhoon Bavi.

Report informs via Xinhua that the funds will be provided by the Ministries of Finance and Emergency Management.

More than 1.9 million people have been affected as the typhoon approaches the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian. Authorities have issued an orange-level alert, with wind gusts expected to reach 118–140 km/h and rainfall of up to 800 mm forecast in some areas.

The powerful typhoon has brought torrential rain to parts of China's eastern coast, triggering severe flooding and other disaster-related emergencies.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the funds will be used to support emergency flood control and typhoon response operations, with priority given to the evacuation and relocation of affected residents, urgent measures to eliminate immediate safety threats, inspections and mitigation of potential secondary disasters, and other critical disaster relief efforts.
