Burnham congratulated Trump on the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

The prime minister stressed the UK"s commitment to ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the statement said.

The British leader also outlined his political plans to Trump and emphasized the UK's commitment to "ensuring the security of allies."

Burnham took office as prime minister on July 20. He replaced Keir Starmer, who was forced to resign under pressure from Labour Party lawmakers following the party's defeat in local elections in May.
