Bessent says new agreement with Iran could be reached in coming days

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that a new ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran could be reached as early as August 7 or 8.

According to Report, Bessent said in an interview with 12News that the agreement could provide for a ceasefire lasting between 30 and 60 days, as well as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The secretary noted that Washington continues to exert pressure on Tehran in both military and economic spheres. In particular, he referred to the US operation Epic Fury and the US Treasury Department's Economic Fury initiative.

Bessent also said that the Strait of Hormuz would no longer be able to operate as it did in the past, as Iran had used it as a tool of pressure. According to him, some energy flows could be redirected through alternative routes.
