Axios: Trump hints at possible abandonment of Anchorage Agreements with Russia

US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment with Vladimir Putin's actions during an international summit and hinted that he might abandon the Anchorage Understandings, which envisioned US consent for Russia's control over Ukraine's Donbas as part of a potential peace agreement.

Report informs via Axios that, according to two officials who were present at the summit, Trump also spoke about the need to increase pressure on Russia.

"Trump was skeptical about everything related to Putin and talked about pressure on Russia, but other leaders do not believe he will actually do anything about it," said one of the officials.

Despite Moscow's claims that the United States accepted Russia's condition for establishing control over eastern regions of Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on June 25 that no concrete agreements on resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict were reached during the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska. He also reaffirmed Washington's intention to "take active steps" and play a constructive role in efforts to resolve the situation surrounding Ukraine.
