Adib Benbrahim at WUF13: Housing - key to fighting poverty in Morocco

Housing policy is a key tool in combating poverty in Morocco, and ensuring access to housing is seen as the foundation of social stability and justice, Adib Benbrahim, Secretary of State for Housing at the Ministry of National Territory and Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy of Morocco, said during a panel session at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

He stated that Morocco is well aware of the scale of the housing problem and has made housing policy a national priority.

"The most important issue is to focus on ensuring access to housing. When people do not have access to housing, citizens do not have stable conditions for full participation in active public life," he noted.

Benbrahim emphasized that for low-income citizens, acquiring housing becomes a significant financial burden, as a significant portion of their income is spent on housing. He added that this prevents people from meeting other basic needs of daily life.

He also noted that today, even middle-income citizens are forced to spend too much of their income on housing, which limits their opportunities in areas such as education and healthcare.

"Therefore, we must act quickly on housing issues," the Moroccan representative emphasized.
