Sarsang Reservoir – one of Karabakh's restoration, revival symbols – VIDEO

The Sarsang reservoir is located in Azerbaijan's Aghdara district, on the Tartar River. Built in 1976, the reservoir is primarily used for the irrigation of agricultural lands and the regulation of water resources. With a capacity of approximately 560 million cubic meters of water, the Sarsang reservoir is a vital water resource management facility in Karabakh.

During the occupation, the Armenian forces that controlled the Sarsang reservoir used its water resources to manipulate the water supply to Tartar and surrounding regions, as well as to exert environmental pressure. The Azerbaijani side stated at the time that such use of water resources was part of a policy of ecological terrorism against the region.

Currently, works are underway in the area to restore the water management infrastructure to ensure its efficient future use. Sarsang, which was once used as an instrument of pressure over water resources, is today becoming one of the symbols of Karabakh's restoration and revival.
