Sahiba Gafarova meets with President of Spanish Senate

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Pedro Rollan, the President of the Senate of Spain, as part of her official visit to the country, Report informs.

While welcoming the Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, Senate President Pedro Rollan stated that they are interested in further expanding relations between the two countries. He noted that the Senate attaches great importance to broadening inter-parliamentary relations and is also ready to support cooperation between governments.

Rollan commended Azerbaijan's economic development indicators and emphasized that they support the activities of Spanish companies in Azerbaijan, particularly in the transportation sector. He also said they highly value cooperation between the countries in the energy field.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, in turn, noted the successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Spain in certain areas, including the existence of positive cooperation experience in the economic sphere. Gafarova highlighted that there are extensive opportunities for developing cooperation in several other areas as well.

She further stated that a positive dynamic has been observed in the development of political relations recently, noting the visit of the President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, to Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, and the agreements reached during this meeting on the development of relations.

Rollan also recalled that along with the President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, senate members also visited Azerbaijan to participate in COP29, saying that the senators observed the magnificent organization of this important international event, as well as the dynamism of Azerbaijani society.

During the conversation, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the importance of developing cooperation between parliaments. In this context, the importance of mutual visits of parliamentary delegations was highlighted. The meeting also included an exchange of views on establishing cooperation between parliamentary committees.

At the meeting, issues of cooperation in the humanitarian field between the countries were also reviewed. It was noted that relations in education and culture bring the two peoples even closer together. Pedro Rollan expressed his gratitude for the interest and attention given to the Spanish language in Azerbaijan. The meeting also emphasized that respect for multicultural values is one of the characteristics that unite Azerbaijan and Spain.

Before the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova signed a memorial book. Additionally, the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation familiarized itself with the plenary session hall of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain.
