MP Zahid Oruj says digital state model strengthens human rights protection

The transition from e-government to a unified digital state model marks a new stage in the protection of human rights, Zahid Oruj, chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on Human Rights, said at public hearings in parliament, Report informs.

The hearings were held on the topic "Digital development, artificial intelligence and protection of children from the harmful effects of social media platforms."

According to him, Azerbaijan views digital development as a new stage in ensuring cyberspace security, information integrity and the protection of citizens' digital rights.

"Establishing criminal liability for the use of deepfake technologies, strengthening the legal foundations of cybersecurity institutions, improving the fight against illegal content on internet information resources, and legal norms aimed at children's digital safety are part of a unified state policy. The Digital Development Council, established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, is the institutional pillar of this policy," Oruj said.

He stressed that Azerbaijan's goal is to build digital development on the principles of the rule of law, reliable protection of human rights and stronger national security.

"Along with the expansion of digital services, the protection of personal data, the ethical use of artificial intelligence, children's digital safety and stronger legal guarantees in cyberspace are becoming an integral part of state policy," he said.
