Azerbaijan proposes amendments to legislation on protecting independent media outlets from cyberattacks

A proposal has been made to amend the legislation on the protection of independent media outlets from cyberattacks in Azerbaijan, according to MP Ramid Namazov, Chairman of the Temporary Commission against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats at Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament), Report informs.

Speaking at public discussions "Cyberattacks on Azerbaijan's media outlets" when talking about attacks on several media outlets on February 20, Namazov highlighted that while online resources of government institutions are protected, there is no such mechanism for independent resources.

"Their protection can be organized within the legislative framework," he said.

The chairman added that amid cyber threats, media representatives should be involved in training with the support of the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan (MEDIA):

"Persons with knowledge in this field can also be involved in these trainings. Cyber hygiene is the most important issue. Even new employees can be given instructions about this. Therefore, we propose that MEDIA implements this together with employees of 'Global Media Group' and other media organizations."
