Azerbaijan expanding access to health insurance for foreign prisoners

The Azerbaijani parliament has approved a proposal to include foreign citizens and stateless persons serving sentences in the country's penitentiary institutions in the list of persons eligible for mandatory health insurance, Report informs.
The relevant amendments to the Law "On Health Insurance" were adopted in the first reading at today's plenary session.
According to current legislation, foreigners under the protection of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees are considered insured persons in Azerbaijan, along with citizens.
The proposed amendments expand this list to include foreigners and stateless persons who are in custody, serving prison sentences, or serving life sentences.
