Adil Valiyev: Three-year bachelor's degree could be introduced after transition to 12-year education

Following the transition to a 12-year system of full secondary education, it would be advisable to introduce a three-year bachelor's degree program, Adil Valiyev, head of the Department of Social Legislation at the Milli Majlis, said a meeting of the parliament's Committee on Science and Education.

Report quotes him as saying that reducing the duration of bachelor's studies to three years is not possible under the current conditions, as the issue needs to be addressed comprehensively.

He noted that full secondary education in Azerbaijan currently lasts 11 years, while leading universities abroad generally require 12 years of secondary education. As a result, some Azerbaijani school students are required to make up for the additional year of education.

"Therefore, following the transition to a 12-year education system, it will be relatively easy to introduce a three-year bachelor's degree program at the next stage. However, under the current conditions, 11 years of full secondary education plus three years of bachelor's studies would not be as advisable," Veliyev said.
