Sherzod Asadov: Media must convey society's voice and protect national interests

Media should not simply report the news, but also convey the voice of society, reflect changes taking place in the country, and help foster public dialogue, Sherzod Asadov, head of Uzbekistan's Presidential Administration Communications Department and presidential press secretary said at the International Media Forum "Islamic Civilization: A New Perspective – New Discoveries."

Report's correspondent in Tashkent quotes him as saying that protecting national interests does not mean being closed off from the world or abandoning objectivity. Rather, it means relying on facts and credible information while taking into account the interests of society and the state.

The speaker noted that a country's independence today is determined not only by its territory, economy, or political institutions, but also by its ability to independently shape the information agenda and protect its information space.
