'Herald of Truth': Altun commends Azerbaijani media’s role in fight against disinformation

The Azerbaijani press, with its 150-year history, has not only delivered news but has also been the voice of the people, carrier of cultural heritage, and defender of freedom of thought, said Fahrettin Altun, Head of the Communications Department at the Presidency of Türkiye, Report informs.

In his video address to the Global Information Environment and Media Trends conference (MEDIAFEST-2025) held in Nakhchivan on May 30, He congratulated all media representatives who consider it their duty to convey the truth, contribute to the preservation of a fair media culture, and remain loyal to ethical values and principles of journalism:

"In an era when disinformation has reached its highest level, I am greatly pleased with the contribution of the Azerbaijani press to the struggle for truth, acting with the responsibility of delivering accurate information to the public.

The journey of the Azerbaijani press, which began with the Akinchi newspaper published in Azerbaijani by Hasan bey Zardabi in 1875, continues with great success today. Especially during the Second Karabakh War, the Azerbaijani press worked diligently to convey the country's rightful position to the international community and to prevent systematic disinformation attempts. While defending your just struggle with great determination, you also became the herald of truth. You prevented the international community from being poisoned by lies, fabricated content, and disinformation."

Altun also stated that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the field of press was further strengthened by the "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in the Field of Media between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye":

"The joint media platform of Azerbaijan and Türkiye is also of great importance in terms of developing cooperation in the field of communication and media and relations with the Turkic world. Relations between the two countries manifest themselves in every field from communication to energy, from logistics to defense industry, with the principle of One nation, two states."
