History should not remain behind museum displays but should become a source of new knowledge, ideas and discoveries for future generations, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, director of the Islamic Civilization Center, said, as quoted by Report's correspondent in Tashkent.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Media Forum "Islamic Civilization: A New Perspective – New Discoveries" in Tashkent, Abdukhalikov stressed the importance of making cultural heritage accessible to contemporary audiences.
"History must speak. Cultural heritage must enter into dialogue with people. The past should inspire today's generation to make new discoveries," he said.
According to Abdukhalikov, studying history alone is not enough. Its lessons must be understood and communicated to a global audience through modern media.
He said the forum brings together history, science, cultural heritage and modern media, creating new opportunities for dialogue between peoples and civilizations.
Abdukhalikov identified presenting Uzbekistan's rich historical and scientific heritage to international audiences as one of the Center's key priorities.
"Let us together bring the true voice of Islamic civilization to the whole world. It is the voice of science and enlightenment, peace, tolerance and humanity," he said.
Abdukhalikov also said the Center is working with Euronews, BBC and other international media companies on projects dedicated to Uzbekistan's history, culture and heritage.
He said the cooperation is expected to result in new documentaries, television programs, special media projects and joint initiatives involving journalists, scholars and representatives of cultural institution.
