Baku TV chief says social media information not always trustworthy

Information shared on social media today is not always trustworthy, Baku TV Director General Ramin Jafarov said during an appearance on Real TV, Report informs.

According to him, information on social media is often published without proper sourcing.

"Few platforms on social media have managed to earn trust like Baku TV. The number of our subscribers is approaching 1.5 million. I think this is the result of the audience's trust. We understand what people are interested in. Crime news, in particular, is in high demand. We have been operating for almost eight years. During this period, our materials have gained 4 billion views. This means we have managed to attract viewers," Jafarov said.

He noted that it is wrong to compare television and social media, as each plays its own role.

"Television and social media should not be compared. Social media and traditional television have their own rules; they are completely different environments," he stressed.

According to Jafarov, social media will also eventually be replaced by new systems used by the next generation.

He also said that despite Baku TV's news format, the channel attaches great importance to preserving historical memory. That is why programs such as Aydın Tarix (Clear History) are aired and youth-oriented projects are implemented.

"We have a project for young people - the School of Digital Media. We pass on to the younger generation the knowledge and experience we have accumulated over the years," the director general added.
