AnewZ produces investigative film 'Macron Paradox' about France's declining influence in Africa

AnewZ TV channel presented a new documentary, "Macron Paradox," dedicated to the contradictions of French President Emmanuel Macron's presidency, Paris' declining influence in Africa, and the legal proceedings surrounding individuals associated with the Élysée Palace, Report informs.

The investigative film centers on Macron's promise to abandon the previous model of French politics and build a more transparent system of governance, as well as issues related to France's weakening position abroad and the activities of former presidential security officer Alexandre Benalla and his associate Anass Derraz.

The film examines two interrelated themes. The first concerns Paris' policy in Africa, where Macron promised to abandon the practice of Françafrique and build new relationships with countries on the continent. The authors note that, despite these statements, Paris has failed to abandon its previous approaches, leading to growing discontent in African countries and a weakening of French influence in the region. The film focuses specifically on Operation Barkhane in the Sahel, the deteriorating security situation, the withdrawal of French troops from several African countries, and the rise of other international players, including Russia and China.

The second part of the film examines the case of Alexandre Benalla, a former security officer at the Élysée Palace who found himself at the center of a scandal following the events of May 1, 2018, in Paris. The authors also examine the activities of his business partner, Anass Derraz, and provide information about an alleged consulting agreement linked to Russian-Azerbaijani businessman Farhad Akhmedov and the superyacht M/Y Luna.

The documentary concludes that the contradictions between France's foreign policy rhetoric and domestic problems related to informal networks of influence have become a key feature of Emmanuel Macron's presidency.
