Anne Carson wins 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature

Canadian poet, essayist and writer Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.

According to Report, Carson received the award for her bold and innovative body of work, which creatively draws on the classical literary tradition to create new and distinctive forms in contemporary literature.

Carson was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1950.

Her work primarily spans poetry and essays, alongside translation.

Carson developed an interest in Ancient Greek at a young age and studied the language at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. She is also a scholar and professor of classical literature and has taught at prominent universities in the United States and Canada, including Princeton, New York and Michigan universities.

One of the works that brought Carson widespread recognition is Autobiography of Red, in which she reworked a story from ancient Greek mythology in a contemporary setting.
