UN appeals to Azerbaijan, Armenia over mines

"I have seen the horrors and disasters of the war in Afghanistan. I am personally acquainted with the disasters and destructive effects of mines," UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai said at a webinar entitled 'The Second Karabakh War and Mines.'
He welcomed the Azerbaijani government's efforts to clear the area of mines: "We invite Azerbaijan and Armenia to join the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction."
