Russian expert: New Armenian authorities are pursuing a policy of double standards
Report

"The new Armenian authorities are pursuing a policy of double standards. It turns out that the country has no inheritance, succession of the political course."

Russian expert Yevgeny Mikhailov told Report commenting on the statements of the Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan about his unwillingness to make concessions in settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Notably, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently reiterated that the Karabakh conflict should be resolved in stages, and begin with the return of the adjacent territories. The expert noted that Lavrov would not declare this without grounds and preliminary agreements: "I understand that Lavrov's statement was not accidental, which means that preliminary agreements have already existed. The current Armenian authorities, against all the agreements reached, thereby undermining the already deteriorating relations with the Russian Federation. Russia has always been a supporter of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Russia always claims that Armenia is part of Eurasia, and it doesn't need to look at West. It needs to live on our territory and in the common economic space."

"The settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will do us all a world of good. By starting negotiations with their neighbors, the Armenians will improve their economic situation - increase revenues, open borders, and unblock road maps. The entire region will experience a sharp rise in the economy. Armenia cannot fail to understand this. Mnatsakanyan's statement about the refusal to make concessions indicates that a third force has entered the game. I believe that this third force is the United States and its allies, who do not benefit from peace in the region. It is beneficial for them to have constant sluggish chaos, tension. The Armenians will now be used to sway the situation throughout the South Caucasus."

"Armenia is now at a crossroads with whom to go further in life - America or with Russia and its allies. Azerbaijan is an ally of the Russian Federation. Azerbaijan is interested in the development of the whole region. Until the current government in Armenia changes, I do not see any prospects (for resolving the conflict)."
