MFA: Position of current Armenian authorities is nothing but self-deception and misleading of their own people

In their latest commentary, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia again voiced the thesis on the interests of the “people of Nagorno-Karabakh".

Report informs that commenting on this issue to media, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva said: "Azerbaijan’s position on this issue has been repeatedly voiced. Thus, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the Valdai international discussion club spoke out on this matter substatively, clearly, precisely and determinedly. The position of the current authorities of Armenia is nothing but self-deception and misleading of their own people, however, it is impossible to deceive the international community. There is an urgent need for the political leadership of Armenia to carefully study international documents adopted in the framework of the conflict settlement process, as well as the statements by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. None of the documents on the settlement of the conflict regarding the population of Nagorno-Karabakh mentions the concept of “people” in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. In this connection, I would like to remind that the joint statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, as well as the relevant agreements between the two sides of the conflict, to which the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry refers, clearly indicated the need to prepare the population for peace. The head of the Republic of Azerbaijan noted in a way understandable and clear to everyone that there is no concept of "the people of Nagorno-Karabakh", and we are talking about the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities in this region of Azerbaijan.

"If the Armenian side is really interested in the victory of democracy in this region, then Armenia, as a country that exercises real control over the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, should, first of all, withdraw its troops from these territories and not impede the return of the forcibly expelled Azerbaijani population there, which will serve ensuring their legal and democratic rights."
