KOICA to launch $5.5M kahriz restoration project in Azerbaijan's Karabakh

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will launch a $5.5 million project to restore kahrizes (reclamation systems designed to bring underground water to the surface through hydrotechnical means) in Azerbaijan's Karabakh this year, running through 2030, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan Kang Kym gu stated at the conference "Strengthening Global Solidarity through Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation," Report informs.

According to him, the Republic of Korea prioritizes supporting the reconstruction and development of Azerbaijan's liberated territories - Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.

"The new KOICA project for the restoration of kahrizes [traditional underground water supply systems] in the Karabakh region is expected to begin this year. It will be implemented jointly with the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan until 2030, with a total budget of $5.5 million," the diplomat said.

The ambassador expressed hope for the successful execution of the initiative.
