One of the key tasks in Azerbaijan's agricultural sector is to build a climate-resilient model where every cubic meter of water ensures higher productivity, according to Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA).
Report informs that speaking at a meeting on cotton development in Sabirabad, Mikayilov emphasized the importance of gradually moving away from traditional irrigation methods. He highlighted the expansion of drip and pivot irrigation technologies, as well as modern agrotechnical practices such as laser land-leveling and ridge planting.
The chairman noted that the introduction of modern irrigation technologies prevents soil salinization, significantly increases yields, enables more efficient use of water resources, and improves the economic effectiveness of investments.
Mikayilov also noted that as part of capital repair works across the country, more than 55 km of canals have been lined with concrete, over 10.4 km of pipelines have been renewed, 2,813 meters of stone-concrete dams have been repaired, and 204 sub-artesian wells have been restored.
