Water agency chairman: Climate action cannot be separated from water policy

In Azerbaijan, climate action cannot be carried out independently of water management, Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA), said during the third day of Baku Climate Action Week 2025 (BCAW2025), Report informs.

According to him, proper management of water resources is vital across all sectors: "Our well-being, food security, energy systems, and public health all depend on how efficiently we use every drop of water."

Mikayilov recalled that last year, by presidential order, Azerbaijan approved the "National Strategy for Efficient Use of Water Resources" for 2024–2040, outlining clear directions for the next 16 years: "This strategy is not just a document-it's a roadmap built on concrete goals and measurable outcomes."
