The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway is one of the key segments of the transport corridor connecting China and Europe, with potential to be extended as far as London, Türkiye's Transport and Infrastructure Minister said, Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said, according to Report's Georgian bureau.
Report quotes him as saying the route is expected to handle up to 5 million tons of cargo per year, which would significantly contribute to the economic development of participating countries.
He also emphasized that, amid recent disruptions in maritime transport, the importance of land-based transport corridors - particularly the BTK line - has increased significantly.
