UN Special Rapporteur calls for inclusion of IDPs in urban reconstruction

Internally displaced persons must be at the forefront of the recovery process, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to housing, Paula Gaviria, said at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

"Internally displaced persons must take a leading role in the revitalization of their cities. Displaced persons remain the driving force behind transformation, and their genuine involvement in decision-making guarantees not only the legitimacy but also the long-term sustainability of all reconstruction efforts," the Special Rapporteur emphasized.

Gaviria placed particular emphasis on the importance of municipal authorities, describing them as the "front line" of the recovery process, which must simultaneously address urgent current challenges and develop a long-term development strategy.
