An approach that integrates the climate agenda with peace and security issues allows for greater preparedness to manage modern risks, UN Environment Programme representative Matti Lehtonen said at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He stated that the "climate-peace-security" approach is primarily about increasing preparedness.
He emphasized that an important part of the discussion is how such issues should be formulated and presented in different contexts.
"We apply the 'climate, peace, and security' approach where it is truly useful. If it is not useful, it is not considered a universal framework that should be applied in every situation," the UNEP representative added.
