Sustainable housing solutions can significantly reduce environmental degradation, said Ombretta Tempra, Head of Land, Housing and Informal Settlements at UN-Habitat and Lead Housing Expert.
According to Report, Tempra made the remarks at an intersessional meeting held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
She noted that despite multiple risks, there are a wide range of solutions capable of reducing the housing sector"s impact on environmental degradation and pollution.
"Circular construction reduces resource extraction and waste; bioclimatic design and energy efficiency lower energy demand and emissions; rooftop solar panels act as decentralized renewable energy sources; water reuse systems and blue infrastructure reduce water consumption and pollution; bio-based materials such as sustainably sourced timber and bamboo contribute to carbon storage; and nature-based solutions improve air quality and support biodiversity," she said.
