The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is looking for updated formats of cooperation with the private sector in housing construction.
Report informs that Ombretta Tempra, chief of the Land, Housing and Shelter Section at UN-Habitat, said this at the panel session titled "Developer Coalition for the Promotion of Productive Partnerships in the Global South, and Preliminary Presentation of the CAHF Housing Finance Yearbook 2025/2026" held as part of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
Tempra stressed that there is a need to develop new, more adaptive mechanisms of cooperation.
"Traditional public-private partnership models often fail to keep pace with the speed of urbanization processes, especially in developing countries. We need approaches that will allow private developers not to limit themselves to the construction of commercial real estate, but to actively participate in providing affordable and quality housing for the most vulnerable groups of the population. Only by combining the financial resources of business with social guarantees from international institutions will we be able to cope with the global housing crisis," the UN-Habitat representative said.
