More than 70% of Latin American countries have a national housing policy, Matthijs van Oostrum, representative of the Global Research and Analytics Division of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said at the event titled "From Policy to Impact: Scaling Up Housing Supply" organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, the highest level of countries that actually have a national housing policy is in Latin America: "More than 70% of the countries in that region have a specific national housing policy. However, in places like Africa, for example, this figure is significantly lower, and that is concerning. Because we know that Africa is urbanizing, they already have housing problems, and these problems are expected to become even more acute. Therefore, it is very, very important for these countries to at least start developing a national housing policy in order to try to address the housing issue in an integrated manner."
