Turkmenistan calls for comprehensive approach to development of Middle Corridor

The competitiveness of the Middle Corridor must be evaluated comprehensively, rather than being reduced solely to the improvement of individual infrastructure facilities, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Perhat Yagshiev said at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), Report informs.

"The competitiveness of the Middle Corridor should be considered as a whole. This concerns not only the improvement of individual infrastructure sections but also the formation of a unified, coordinated, and predictable transport and logistics system," Yagshiev noted.

Among the main priorities for the route's development, he cited the modernization of physical infrastructure, including railways, highways, ports, and terminals, as well as increasing their throughput capacity.

In addition, the Turkmen deputy minister highlighted the importance of increasing speed and ensuring the predictability of freight traffic.

"To achieve this goal, it is necessary to continue harmonizing tariff policies, transit schedules, and cargo handling procedures," he added.
