Turkic states agree on simplified customs procedures to boost Middle Corridor development

The customs administrations of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) signed two memorandums of understanding and a joint declaration during the organization"s 11th session, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor through streamlined customs procedures.
A source in OTS told Report that the agreements included a Memorandum of Understanding on risk management, a Memorandum of Understanding on customs laboratory cooperation, and a Joint Declaration on the implementation of Annex 11 to the Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR Carnets (Geneva, 1975).
The session focused on simplifying border-crossing processes, promoting digitalization, and accelerating transit procedures along the Middle Corridor. Among the key issues discussed were expanding the use of the e-TIR system, introducing "Single Window" and "One-Stop Shop" mechanisms, and integrating advanced technologies such as electronic seals and cargo tracking systems.
Special emphasis was placed on developing and harmonizing Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs to further facilitate trade and cross-border movement across the region.
Participants also agreed to expedite the launch of a pilot project under the Simplified Customs Corridor Agreement, designed to ease border crossings, improve transit operations, and create more favorable conditions for foreign trade activities within OTS countries.
