Tamara Paseyro: Housing lever for strengthening social solidarity

Housing is a lever that strengthens social solidarity, Tamara Paseyro, Minister of Housing and Territorial Planning of Uruguay, said during an event held within the framework of World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.

Report quotes her as saying housing policy is not an end in itself, but rather a tool for social solidarity and equalizing opportunities.

"It is important to give communities a voice. In Uruguay, we create commissions involving residents, technical teams, and construction companies. There are basic infrastructure elements - sewage systems, lighting, and roads. But after that, other factors emerge that must be addressed together with the community. Managing the three components - land, public-private financing, and institutional capacity - while taking community interests into account has become our main experience and lesson," the minister said.
