Spain's Savener awarded engineering design contract for Sumgait desalination plant in Azerbaijan

Spanish engineering company Savener has been selected as a contractor of HDEC Power China to perform engineering design works for the construction of a seawater desalination plant in Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing Spanish media.
The company won the contract for designing the new seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant in Sumgait.
This large-scale infrastructure facility will supply drinking water to nearly 3 million people, underscoring its high strategic significance.
Savener was brought on board by HDEC (Huadong Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of the PowerChina group), which serves as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) general contractor, while the project developer is Saudi Arabia's ACWA. The Spanish firm Savener has already fully engaged in the project's execution.
Savener possesses extensive experience in the water sector, having previously participated in establishing several of the world's largest desalination plants, including Ghubrah III and Barka V in Oman, Shuweihat and Taweelah in the UAE, Al Khafji and Shuaibah III in Saudi Arabia, Salalah in Oman, as well as facilities in Morocco.
The project entails the construction of a seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day within the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park.
Under the terms of the agreement, the project duration will span 27.5 years, after which management of the facility will be transferred to the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan.
Commissioning of the enterprise is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028. The project cost is valued at $407 million.
