Saudi Arabia's housing programs use interest-rate subsidies and direct financial support mechanisms, Ali Al-Ahmad, representative of the Ministry of Municipalities, Rural Affairs and Housing, said during World Urban Forum 13 in Baku.
Report quotes him as saying these loans are becoming increasingly attractive to citizens because the government either subsidizes the interest rate on the loan or provides a grant of 100,000–150,000 riyals when applying for a state-subsidized apartment loan.
"We receive funds either from the government, charitable foundations, or philanthropists. We combine all of this into a single fund, and currently more than 200,000 families in Saudi Arabia benefit from it. Of these homes, 109,000 were built directly by the ministry itself, while the rest were purchased from the private sector," he said.
