Ecosystem risks exert cascading effects on urban systems, Antonio Sampayo, Advisor at the UN Climate Security Mechanism (CSM), said at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
The official mentioned that urban systems must be seen as part of a broader network of interconnections: "The impact of climate and environmental factors spreads along a chain: drought affects crops, which influences food prices and increases socio-economic pressure. Floods, in turn, can trigger migration, strain housing and services, and intensify inequality and social tensions."
