Sahib Alakbarov: Baku and Dushanbe have potential to develop industrial cooperation

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan remains relatively low, considering the countries" economic opportunities and the potential for mutually beneficial trade.

Report informs that Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Alakbarov said this at the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan business forum in Baku.

According to him, trade turnover doubled in January-April of this year and exceeded $8.5 million.

"The main share of turnover accounts for exports from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan. Today, our cooperation is developing in such areas as industry, agriculture, trade, services, transport and logistics infrastructure, digital solutions and the development of small and medium-sized businesses," Alakbarov said.

He noted that there are good prerequisites for further expanding cooperation in a number of promising areas.

"Mutual cooperation is possible in the production of construction materials, industrial cooperation, including in the aluminum sector, as part of industrial parks and free economic zones. Cooperation is also possible in certain areas of energy and new technologies. Our countries have complementary economic opportunities," he said.

He noted that, in this regard, the exchange of experience in the development of industrial zones, support for entrepreneurship, export promotion, synchronization of public and business services, and improvement of conditions for investment activity is of interest.
