Rovshan Rustamov calls for port coordination amid Caspian water decline

The decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea is creating challenges for shipping and access to ports, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, said at the international conference "The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity and Strategic Cooperation" in Baku, held as part of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Report informs.

"The decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea raises serious questions for shipping and access to ports. At the same time, tensions and conflicts along international trade routes make close coordination between ports necessary. That is why holding a conference of port leaders within the framework of CICA is of great importance," he said.

He added that amid growing uncertainty, such meetings help strengthen trust and find practical solutions.

"I believe we should pay close attention to coordinated investments, the creation of digital corridors and the simplification of border-crossing procedures. At the same time, we need to share solutions aimed at improving the safety and resilience of port operations. This conference plays an important role, as it will help improve coordination between ports and railways, ensure uninterrupted trade flows and enhance the quality of services for customers," Rustamov said.
