The annual container-handling capacity of the Baku International Sea Trade Port is planned to increase to 300,000 TEU by the end of 2027, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, said at an international conference in Baku held as part of the CICA, Report informs.
He noted that the port's overall throughput capacity currently stands at 15 million tons, while the expansion project is expected to create an additional 10 million tons of capacity.
"The port's designed container capacity was set at 100,000 TEU, but last year we managed to increase this figure to 150,000 TEU through operational efficiency. This year, capacity is planned to reach 200,000 TEU, and by the end of 2027, 300,000 TEU. Increasing throughput capacity will expand the capabilities of the Middle Corridor," Rustamov added.
