Over 200 people provided with jobs at new bus depot in Nakhchivan

A new bus depot in Nakhchivan city has provided employment for 222 people, BakuBus LLC Head of Public Relations Asmer Aliyeva told journalists, according to Report's Nakhchivan bureau.

She said the construction of the bus depot, which began in December last year, is underway on an area of 2.72 hectares. The complex includes an administrative building, a repair workshop and a car wash, as well as facilities to operate 112 buses, including electric buses.

"To organize passenger transportation in Nakhchivan's public transport system exclusively with electric buses, 60 BYD buses assembled in Azerbaijan, each with a capacity of 53 passengers, have been purchased. Charging stations have been installed and the depot infrastructure has been upgraded to service the buses. On a full charge, the buses will be able to travel approximately 200 kilometers. At the initial stage, the buses are scheduled to operate on nine routes. Work has also been carried out to optimize routes and bus stops," she said.

The BakuBus representative noted that the commissioning of the bus depot has provided employment for 222 people.

Aliyeva said that all bus fares in Nakhchivan city will be paid entirely through cashless methods.

"Passengers will be able to use CityCard and BakıKart, as well as Google Pay, Apple Pay, the BakıKart mobile app QR code and any bank card," she said.

She also highlighted that a modern car wash has been installed at the depot.

"Washing one bus takes an average of 3–6 minutes. At the same time, 85% of the water used is recycled after filtration," Aliyeva noted.

On August 11, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva inspected the new electric buses that will be put into service in Nakhchivan and reviewed reconstruction works on the railway infrastructure of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
