Official: Underground water infrastructure poses challenges in Azerbaijan

The fact that Azerbaijan's entire water infrastructure is located underground creates difficulties, said Ilham Bayramov, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources, during a press conference reviewing the agency's work over the past nine months.

He emphasized the need for rapid response to emergencies:

"Accidents can happen anywhere in the world. The main issue is their prompt elimination. Long-term use of underground networks inevitably causes certain problems."

Bayramov also noted that, alongside water supply, wastewater disposal remains a priority:

"Measures in this area serve both environmental protection and public health. Access to water is directly linked to the country's economic development. Continuous water supply in Baku and other regions is constantly monitored. Although challenges exist, efforts are underway to address them."
