In Morocco, more than 100,000 families have received direct financial assistance for housing provision over the past two years, Fatna Chihab, Secretary General of the National Housing Council under the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and City Policy of Morocco, said during an event at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
According to Chihab, reviewing the progress achieved in the 10 years since the adoption of the New Urban Agenda allows measuring the scale of work done:
"Morocco has placed sustainability and territorial equity at the center of its vision, particularly through the new development model and advanced regionalization reforms. In concrete terms, implementing the New Urban Agenda marked a historic paradigm shift in our housing policy. With the housing aid program, the Kingdom moved from indirect support to construction companies to direct financial assistance for families."
She added that in just two years, more than 100,000 families benefited, 46% of them women: "At the same time, the digitalization of urban planning services ensured the transparency and flexibility required by the agenda. Historic efforts were also made to cover 3,800 rural settlements with urban planning documents, enabling better management of rural-urban sustainability. Furthermore, the expansion of tram networks and the introduction of high-service-level buses marked the transition to sustainable mobility, fulfilling the country's commitment to decarbonized and accessible transport."
