The housing crisis is the urban manifestation of a global development crisis, representative of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Aziza Akhmouch said at WUF13 in Baku.
According to Report, Akhmouch stated that the housing issue, which in many countries has effectively reached emergency levels, is not only a social issue but also an economic and political one.
"At the OECD, we associate the housing crisis with growing public discontent and the new geography of populism across many of our member countries. It also negatively affects competitiveness. For years, many OECD countries remained trapped in complacency, relying on market-based approaches and focusing solely on housing supply discussions," she said.
