Mukhtar Babayev: Efficient water use remains a top priority

Rational use of every cubic meter of water will help people better adapt to scarcity, Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan"s Presidential Representative for Climate Issues, said during the 2nd International Exhibition and Conference on Water Management – Baku Water Week in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying in recent years, the importance of proper water resource management has increased: "Over the past year, new tools have been implemented, and their application alone has saved 16 million cubic meters of water-a significant achievement."

Babayev emphasized that glacier melting, declining river levels, and uneven rainfall distribution are among the main consequences of climate change: "All of this encourages a culture of responsible consumption."

He also highlighted that COP30 will be held in Belém, located on the Amazon River in Brazil-a country with the world"s richest water resources. "Naturally, water-related initiatives will be on the agenda. However, efficient water use will remain a top priority even in countries with abundant water resources," Babayev said.
