The reconstruction of the Sugovushan, Khachinchay, and Kandalanchay reservoir cascade and seven main irrigation canals, as well as the construction of the Zabukhchay reservoir, have been completed in Azerbaijan, Zaur Mikayilov, chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan, said at a meeting on agricultural issues chaired by President Ilham Aliyev, Report informs.
According to him, work is currently underway on the reconstruction of the Sarsang reservoir, the Ashaghi-Mughan and Shirvan irrigation canals-the country's largest main canal-as well as the construction of the Yengic and Alijanchay reservoirs. Construction of the Bargushadchay and Khakarichay reservoirs is also planned.
Mikayilov noted that preparatory work has been completed for the reconstruction of the Karabakh irrigation canal and the construction of the Giz Galasi main irrigation canal, with the involvement of international financial institutions.
"At the same time, more than 100,000 hectares of new land will be irrigated, and irrigation systems will be improved on an area of nearly 500,000 hectares. Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur are fully integrated into the country's overall water balance, and comprehensive measures to create modern water management infrastructure in the liberated territories are ongoing. Ensuring a reliable water supply to realize the agricultural potential of these territories is a top priority," he emphasized.
