Middle Corridor facing rolling stock, container challenges

The main difficulties on the Middle Corridor are related to shortages of rolling stock, containers, and operational coordination, Advisor to the Director of the Baku International Sea Trade Port Khudayar Hasanli stated at a conference held within the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, the shortage and inefficiency of rolling stock lead to delays, while long waiting times for railcars in ports reduce overall efficiency. The lack of electrification on a section of the railway in Kazakhstan also negatively impacts costs.

"To solve these problems, Azerbaijan Railways plans to increase its wagon fleet, return leased wagons to the route, and expand rolling stock. It is also planned to create a joint IT platform with Georgian Railway and continue electrification in Kazakhstan," Hasanli noted.
