Micaela Friberg-Storey: Thailand has consolidated localization of SDGs at state level

Localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the development of decentralization have become key directions of Thailand's state policy, implemented with active support from the UN, the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Michaela Friberg-Storey, said during a panel discussion at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

She emphasized the importance of political support at both the national and municipal levels. As an example, the speaker noted that the UN office in Thailand, together with the government, managed to bring together the country's governors on a single platform, who signed commitments to achieve the SDGs, which became the foundation for further localization of the agenda.

Michaela Friberg-Storey also noted that Thailand's new government has established the course toward decentralization of governance and localization of sustainable development as a national priority.

"We must support political will at all levels: national, regional, and municipal," she said.
